—Questions & Answers—

Should we consider a second videographer?

Two filmmakers doubles the amount of footage and camera angles. If your budget allows, this is a terrific investment. You’ll enjoy extra footage of your loved ones.

What can we expect during our wedding day?

We’ll tailor the filmmaking approach to you. After all, it’s your day and your film! Many couples like to capture their getting-ready process and first look. I’m discreet….quiet…. and flexible. I like to capture you and your loved ones naturally and authentically. This is a big part of my photojournalistic approach to storytelling.

Some couples ask me to be a bit more involved. If so, I’m more than happy to offer gentle guidance and direction. Such as, the best places to sit or stand to take advantage of natural light from windows!

During your ceremony and reception, you probably won’t even notice me!

How do you work with our photographer?

Short answer—very smoothly! I’m a photographer myself. When I’m filming, I understand what your photographer needs—mostly, to communicate, and to stay out of the way!

You used to be a TV journalist. That’s very unusual for wedding videographers.

Yes! That’s part of the Sound Originals Difference. My background as a photojournalist and reporter help me appreciate the importance of capturing your wedding naturally and authentically. I pay a lot of attention to your loved ones. I am always looking for their reactions, their smiles, laughs, tears.

I make a special effort to record plenty of footage of your wedding party and immediate family members during the ceremony and reception. Many couples tell me they love looking back on this footage of their loved ones!

Can we pick the music for our film?

Yes! Most couples decide they want me to select the music. But, you’re totally welcome to pick it yourself. U.S. copyright law says we need to use licensed songs. I subscribe to a library of music with several hundred songs.

Is 8 hours enough time?

Yes, in most cases! Every wedding is different. We’ll absolutely talk about your preliminary timeline. In general, we typically start filming about one hour before the bride gets into her dress. This gives us enough time to capture footage of the bride and bridal party getting ready.

How long will the highlight film be?

Cinematic highlight films are usually about 5 to 7 minutes. I’ve found this is the perfect length. Many couples tell me they love playing their film at family gatherings, especially over the holidays. Five-to-seven minutes seems to be exactly the perfect length to relive the emotions and memories, and get everyone feeling like they were back at your wedding! I also offer documentary edits, approximately 30 minutes, for couples who like to also have longer, more in-depth films.

How do you record audio during the ceremony and reception?

We use high-quality digital wireless microphones. Typically, the groom and the officiant wear a very small discreet microphone attached to their jackets or clothing. For toasts, we usually attach our microphone directly to the DJ’s speakers. Our equipment is 100-percent digital, connected directly to our cameras, so it does not interfere with any other sound system from your venue, church, DJ or anyone else.

What’s included with the full videos of the ceremony, toasts and raw footage?

Many couples love watching their entire ceremony or toasts from beginning to end. We’re happy to offer this as an optional add-on. We’ll send you a separate video with crystal-clear audio.

Some couples also enjoy watching their raw footage — every single shot from their entire day. This is a great investment to see many more of your guests and loved ones. We’ll process and edit your raw footage into an uninterrupted video that you can easily watch, fast-forward, rewind and pause.

We’re ready to reserve our date! What’s next?

Terrific! We’ll both sign a simple agreement. There’s a retainer of 50 percent, and then your wedding date is booked…reserved…and all yours!
